Ed DeGenaro - Guitarist and Musician
Last week I was fortunate to be in Seattle, and had a great opportunity to interview my friend and Guitarist Ed DeGenaro, who recently released his second independent CD titled "Less is Seldom More"
Along with Ed on guitar, fretless guitar and guitar synth, are a handful of top notch Musicians including: Chris Taylor (keys/guitar), Dave Weckl (drums), Ric Fierabracci (bass), Marco Minnemann (drums), George Whitty (organ), Joel Rosenblatt (drums), Matte Henderson (guitar), Trip Wamsley (bass), and Satish (trumpet).
This 2009 CD release is a huge departure, in style, from Ed's first solo CD from 2007, "Dog House" which featured track after track of mostly fast, but varying styles of fretless and fretted guitar playing. "Less is Seldom More" highlights the whole band, in addition to Ed's fretted and fretless guitar playing, and is a blend of several genres - mostly guitar-centric Fusion to me.
I like Dog House as much or more as Less is Seldom More, and am glad I bought both of the CDs. You can get them on iTunes, but I'd recommend the CDs. If you're a musician, and have purchased Less is Seldom More, you can get Hi Res mp3s of the backing tracks directly from Ed. I'm looking forward to jamming over these tracks, and may even review them later, or post my clips, after I've listened and played along with them.
The video interview is below. In the interview, I asked Ed a lot about the recording processes he used on both CDs, tech. stuff on recording his guitars, music download issues, genres and styles, solo vs group playing, and his thoughts on shredding, practicing, lead singers and more.
